Florida Woman Arrested for Construction Insurance Fraud

The state of Florida has arrested Yucet Batista, who set up a shell company in Miami. Ms. Batista told Ascendant Commercial Insurance, Inc. that she had five employees and that her firm had been doing construction work for ten years. In truth, her company was not in the construction business but instead charged fees for uninsured companies to ?rent? her coverage. In all, she created more than 250 fraudulent certificates of insurance.

According to InsuranceNewsNet.com, Ms. Batista has been charged with multiple felonies. Her insurance company estimates that if appropriate premiums had been paid for all those workers, the cost would have been $2.1 million beyond what Ms. Batista paid.
