Did You Know: Unique Legal Considerations for Animal Care Facilities

    August 24, 2026 —
Animal care facilities are highly specialized environments that require expertise far beyond traditional commercial or even standard medical construction. Whether designing and building animal shelters, doggy daycares, veterinary clinics or full-service animal hospitals, these facilities operate under conditions that introduce unique challenges related to sanitation, durability, animal behavior and operational workflows. Because of these complexities, projects that fail to account for animal care requirements adequately often encounter costly issues—many of which result in litigation. Below are real-world examples drawn from expert witness work, followed by proactive best practices construction professionals should apply to future animal care projects. Risk Reset: Concerns Top of Mind for Top Construction Law Firms

    September 28, 2026 —
In the summer of 2025, contractors were consumed by one major issue: tariffs. Owners, builders and suppliers were trying to understand how shifting trade policy would affect bid pricing and ongoing projects. While those concerns have eased after a Supreme Court ruling, some of the industry’s top legal experts—all of whom practice at some of CE’s Top 50 Construction Law Firms—point to a different set of worries that are keeping their clients up at night and keeping their offices busy. Inflation is not fading away, creating continued price challenges. Artificial intelligence is moving at a breakneck pace, offering potential time-saving benefits paired with major liability concerns. The federal government continues to make surprising policy changes, and contractors remain focused on managing financial risk across increasingly complex projects. A Nuclear Power Hangover: Controversies Plague New York's Indian Point Plant Cleanup

    November 02, 2026 —
Michael Tromblee was in for a late night. Of the many after-business-hour duties he performs as superintendent of the Hendrik Hudson school district about 25 miles north of New York City, attending meetings of a board overseeing cleanup of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, located in Buchanan, N.Y., was an infrequent but necessary chore. Since the plant shut down in 2021 and gradually stopped paying taxes to support the school district's students, between one-fourth and one-third of its annual budget funding vanished, and state transitional funds provided to bridge that gap will expire after the 2027-28 school year. Last year, Tromblee described the lost power plant tax revenue, about $25 million annually, as “a financial hit that no school district is built to withstand.” Read the full story...

Predict Risk, Not Incidents: A New Analytics Framework for Your Construction Safety Data

    August 03, 2026 —
Behind every “zero-incidents” company report, hidden hazards may already be accumulating—risks that could become serious injuries tomorrow. The question every executive should be asking is not, “Did anything go wrong last month?” It is: “Where is risk building on my projects right now?” Most construction organizations cannot answer that question. Not because the data does not exist—it does. Every active project generates daily inspection findings, labor records, near-miss reports and audit results. The problem is that standard safety systems collect this data and then report it in ways that make it operationally useless for prevention. They describe the past. They predict nothing. The predictive safety analytics framework (PSAF) is a practical, deployable system developed from years of applying data science to large-scale construction portfolio operations that takes the safety data construction organizations already collect and transforms it into a forward-looking risk signal. The result? A single weekly score that tells executives where risk is concentrating across their portfolio before anyone gets hurt.
